ZTE to Construct China Netcom's AVS-IPTV Network in Dalian

Chinese telecom equipment supplier ZTE announced on December 5 that it has won the bid for China Netcom's commercial IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) network development based on China's homegrown AVS (Audio Video Standard) standard in Dalian, according to China Business News. The development project is seen as an extension of the collaborative efforts between China Netcom and China's MII (Ministry of Information) to push the industrialization of the AVS standard. Field trials on AVS-IPTV commercialization in Dalian commenced in Dalian starting from November 2006.

The deal marks the start of the two companies' cooperation on the development of commercial AVS-IPTV network. Under the agreement, ZTE will be responsible for the construction of China Netcom's IPTV network in Dalian. With the implementation of the AVS-IPTV network, China Netcom plans to provide services such as VOD (Video On Demand), broadcasting, TSTV (Time-Shifted Television), PVR (Private Video Recorder), and NVOD (Near Video On Demand), in addition to a wide range of value-added services.
